Airline planning and scheduling: Models and solution methodologies

Lei ZHOU, Zhe LIANG, Chun-An CHOU, Wanpracha Art CHAOVALITWONGSE

Frontiers of Engineering Management 2020, Volume 7, Issue 1,   Pages 1-26 doi: 10.1007/s42524-020-0093-5

Abstract: The airline industry is a representative industry with high cost and low profitability. Therefore, airlines should carefully plan their schedules to ensure that overall profit is maximized. We review the literature on airline planning and scheduling and focus on mathematical formulations and solution methodologies. Our research framework is anchored on three major problems in the airline scheduling, namely, fleet assignment, aircraft routing, and crew scheduling. General formulation, widely used solution approaches, and important extensions are presented for each problem and integrated problems. We conclude the review by identifying promising areas for further research.

Joint DOA and channel estimation with data detection based on 2D unitary ESPRITin massive MIMO systems Article

Jing-ming KUANG, Yuan ZHOU, Ze-song FEI

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2017, Volume 18, Issue 6,   Pages 841-849 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1700025

Abstract: We propose a novel method for joint two-dimensional (2D) direction-of-arrival (DOA) and channel estimationThe conventional DOA estimation algorithms usually assume that the channel impulse responses are knownIn contrast, a joint DOA and channel estimation scheme is proposed, which first estimates the channelimpulse response estimates instead of accurate channel impulse responses and then, the enhanced channelThe proposed estimator enjoys closedform expressions, and thus it bypasses the search and pairing processes

Fast determination of tobramycin by reversed-phase ion-pair high performance liquid chromatography with a refractive index detector

Liang ZHU, Jingkang WANG

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2013, Volume 7, Issue 3,   Pages 322-328 doi: 10.1007/s11705-013-1348-z

Abstract: A simple and direct method without a derivation step for routine analysis of tobramycin has been developed. This method used reversed-phase ion-pair high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a refractive index (RI) detector and a C18 column which is stable at pH above 1.00. The presence of 4.50 mg·mL trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) in the mobile phase improved the protonation of tobramycin and the formation of ion-pairs, and thus reduced its hydrophility. This unique separation–detection combination showed good linearity with correlation coefficients 0.9996 in the concentration range of 0.25–2.50 mg·mL . The quantitation limit and detection limit were determined to be 0.23 mg·mL and 0.071 mg·mL , respectively. Tobramycin was recovered in 98.00%, 98.84% and 99.64% for tobramycin solutions at concentrations of 2.25 mg·mL , 1.50 mg·mL and 0.75 mg·mL , respectively. The relative standard deviations for six spiked samples ranged from 0.20% to 2.40%, indicating a good reproducibility of this method.
